Sky Bride 721 World´s longest suspension bridge
On 13 May 2022, the longest suspension bridge in the world – the Sky Bridge 721 – opened in the north-east of Czechia. It is a masterpiece of engineering and was at this time considered the longest self-supporting pedestrian suspension bridge in the world.
Crossing it requires all the courage visitors can muster. The Sky Bridge 721 spans 721 metres from one mountain ridge to another. At its highest point, it hovers 95 metres above the majestic valley of the Mlýnský stream and offers fascinating views.
The starting point is at the mountain station of the Sněžník chairlift in Dolní Morava in Czechia. The route across the suspension bridge is one-way. The return journey is along a 2 km long nature trail back to the starting point.
The steel structure has a total weight of 405 tonnes of steel. The ropes alone weigh 158 tonnes. Exposed to wind and weather all year round, the steel structure requires reliable, maintenance-free corrosion protection. Two experienced partners were commissioned for this task: ZINKPOWER and Wiegel. Together, they ensured that the bridge remains permanently protected.
