Canopy walkway, Hainich

Hainich National Park was founded in 1997 as Germany’s 13th national park. It spans 7,500 hectares. Hainich is the largest contiguous coniferous wooded area in Germany with a total surface area of 16,000 hectares. It is situated in Thuringia, between Eisenach, Mühlhausen and Bad Langensalza.

The motto “Let nature be natural” applies to large parts of the national park. The “primeval forest in the middle of Germany” was to be allowed to develop. Ninety per cent of the national park’s total surface is unused. Only coniferous forests and pasturelands are still used.

The canopy walkway meanders through the treetops in two loops 238 and 308 metres long. It is an adventure path through the treetops of the deciduous forest. Solid hot-dip galvanized steel girders hold the wooden plank pathway. ZINKPOWER Calbe was commissioned to carry out the hot-dip galvanizing.
