Rumpiang Bridge
The Rumpiang Bridge is a very impressive construction with its 200 m long latticed arch. With an overall length of 753 m, it spans the River Barito on the south-eastern tip of Borneo. Jembatan-Rumpiang connects the town of Marabahan with Banjarmasin, the capital of the province of South Kalimantan.
This region is characterised by a tropical climate with average temperatures of 27°C and a relative humidity of over 80 percent. Only hot-dip galvanizing offers permanent protection against corrosion for steel parts in these climatic conditions. That is why all steel components of the bridge were hot-dip galvanized in accordance with DIN EN ISO 1461 and joined together by screwed connections to avoid any weak points in corrosion protection. This includes the arched construction, as well as the lattice supporting structure for the carriageway and the crash barriers on the sides.
The 1,100 tonnes of steel installed were hot-dip galvanized by ZINKPOWER Austrindo, on the other side of the Java Sea in Indonesia.
